Comprehensive Eye Exams in Andover, KS, and Winfield, KS

A comprehensive eye exam offers more than just a visual screening. In addition to performing a variety of visual acuity tests, our doctors will examine your eye, both internally and externally, to identify eye disease and conditions and to ensure optimal eye health for years to come.

Comprehensive Eye Exams Are an Essential
Part of Preventative Healthcare

Even if you think your eyesight is fine or have been told you have 20/20 vision, you still need regular eye exams. We recommend yearly eye exams so we can diagnose and manage any potential symptoms. Patients over 65, at-risk patients, or patients with a history of eye disease should be seen annually.

What to Expect During Your Eye Exam

When you visit either our Winfield Family Optometry or Andover Family Optometry locations you will be welcomed into a comfortable environment and given the care you deserve to manage your eye health and protect your vision.

If you’re a new patient, we will begin by discussing your family and vision history to identify any possible concerns.

Next, your doctor will use state-of-the-art technology to examine the inside and outside of your eye and determine how well you see.

Some of the tests we run include:

Refraction

We check your prescription with our accurate autorefractor, phoropter in the exam room, and retinoscope.

iCare IOP Check

We check your eye pressure at each exam to determine if you are at risk for glaucoma. This is the latest in technology. It is more user friendly and comfortable then the old “eye puff” test.

Macular Pigment Optical Density (MPOD)

This checks the density of pigment in your retina to determine if you are at risk for macular degeneration.

Topographer

Scan of the cornea for our contact lens patients, but also to detect and diagnose corneal conditions like keratoconus.

FDT Visual Field

Our visual field screener we perform at each annual exam. This will determine if you have any central or peripheral vision defects.

Optos/Optomap Retinal Camera

This is the most important test for all of our patients. A 200 degree laser scan of the retina that gives the doctor the best views to look at the health of your eye.

OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography)

This is the scan of the retina that is used to diagnosis and monitor glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetes, and many other eye conditions.

Refraction

We check your prescription with our accurate autorefractor, phoropter in the exam room, and retinoscope.

Glasses or Contact Lens Prescriptions

If necessary, we will write you a glasses prescription to sure you’re seeing as clearly as possible. Make sure you visit our in-house optical and check out our glasses lines. We have lots of fashionable styles for all ages and the ability to fill your prescription quickly.

If you wish to use contact lenses, please indicate that at the time of scheduling. We will help you find the right lenses and fit them correctly to ensure maximum visual acuity and overall comfort. This can be done at the time of your annual exam or during a separate appointment.
